After Mark left OSU for Brevard College, OSU became less involved with the WEA until 2000 when Scott Jordan came to the OSU program. The WEA and it&amp;#39;s curriculum are a large part of the current OSU program and in 2006 OSU was recognized at the National Conference on Outdoor Leadership as the Affiliate of the Year.

	&lt;strong&gt;Joel Meier&lt;/strong&gt; is Professor Emeritus at both the University of Montana and Indiana University.&amp;nbsp; His academic specializations are outdoor leadership and wilderness management.&amp;nbsp; At Montana he held various academic positions ranging from Coordinator of the Recreation Management Degree Program to Associate Dean of the School of Forestry.&amp;nbsp; At Indiana he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies.&amp;nbsp; He has been an active participant and leader in a number of professional organizations, including service as President of both the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and the American Association for Leisure and Recreation (AALR), as well as Vice President of Hostelling International - American Youth Hostels, Inc.&amp;nbsp; Special assignments and awards include service as Senior Fulbright Scholar at the University of Otago in New Zealand, consultant to the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sport, and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Alaska, Anchorage.&amp;nbsp; He is the recipient of the Luther Halsey Gulick Medal, the highest honor of AAHPERD for long and distinguished service to the profession.&amp;nbsp; He has also received the Honor Award from both AALR and AAHPERD, as well as the Julian Smith Award from the National Council on Outdoor Education, the J.B. Nash Scholar Award from AALR, and the Distinguished Colleague Award from the Society of Park and Recreation Educators.&amp;nbsp; He is a member of the Academy for Park and Recreation Administration, a Senior Fellow and former President of the American Leisure Academy, and a Charter Fellow and former Chair of the North American Society of Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance Professionals.&amp;nbsp; Meier has authored several books on outdoor leadership, has published numerous professional papers, and has been a presenter or keynote speaker at more than 100 state, district, national and international conferences and meetings.&lt;/div&gt;

		&lt;strong&gt;Phil Powers&lt;/strong&gt; is Executive Director of the American Alpine Club (AAC).&amp;nbsp; His extensive experience in the field of outdoor leadership includes seventeen-years as a course leader, chief mountaineering instructor and development/partnerships director with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).&amp;nbsp; While at NOLS, Powers taught outdoor skills within the basic framework and pedagogy developed by Paul Petzoldt.&amp;nbsp; Powers has led dozens of expeditions to South America, Alaska and Pakistan&amp;rsquo;s Karakoram Range, including ascents of K2 and Gasherbrum II without supplemental oxygen. He made the first ascent of the Washburn Face on Denali and named it in honor of longtime AAC member Bradford Washburn, whose photos contributed significantly to the planning and route research of Powers&amp;rsquo; many Alaska climbs. Powers also made the first ascent of Lukpilla Brakk&amp;rsquo;s Western Edge in Pakistan and the first winter traverse of the Tetons&amp;rsquo; Cathedral Peaks.&amp;nbsp; Powers is author of two books: &lt;em&gt;Winter Mountaineering&lt;/em&gt; and &lt;em&gt;Climbing: Expedition Planning&lt;/em&gt;.&lt;/div&gt;

		Drafted into the Army at 18, in 1942 in World War II, he was instrumental in forming the famed 10th Mountain Division, which fought on skis in the snow. &amp;nbsp;After the war he worked for both the U.S. Forest Service and the Parks Service, battling wildfires, managing timber, tending mules and horses, mountaineering, teaching.&amp;nbsp; In 1961 he was a founder of America&amp;#39;s first Outward Bound program, and became an inspiration to thousands of young people taking the course. &amp;nbsp;He also was formative in the National Outdoor Leadership School, among other projects.&lt;/div&gt;

		&lt;strong&gt;Chris Cashel&lt;/strong&gt; was held in high esteem in her academic position as a professor in the Leisure Studies unit in the School of Applied Health and Educational Psychology at Oklahoma State University.&amp;nbsp; During more than 20 years there, she taught undergraduate and graduate-level leisure studies courses, coordinated degree programs and mentored hundreds of masters and doctoral candidates.&amp;nbsp; She ran a number of WEA courses&amp;nbsp;as well.&amp;nbsp; Dr. Cashel is widely known on the national and international levels.&amp;nbsp; Noted among her numerous contributions was her service on the board of directors of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators, involvement with AAHPERD&amp;rsquo;s Council on Outdoor Education, and participation in several outdoor leadership forums in Japan and elsewhere.&lt;/div&gt;

		&lt;strong&gt;Bob Christie&lt;/strong&gt; was one of the four co-founders of the Wilderness Education Association whoshared a common&amp;nbsp;vision concerning the development of outdoor leadership and the role of education in the preservation of this country&amp;rsquo;s wild land areas.&amp;nbsp; In 1977, born from their vision was the Wilderness Education Association, designed to train outdoor leaders.&amp;nbsp; Early in his career, Bob worked at the National Camp, the leading outdoor education and leadership training school in the nation, under the direction of L.B. Sharp&amp;mdash;the pioneer of outdoor/camping education.&amp;nbsp; In addition to his involvement as a WEA Board of Trustees member, Bob continued his work in organized camping, outdoor equipment development, higher education curriculum development for outdoor leadership and interpretative naturalists, and directed a high adventure canoe base for the Boy Scouts of America.&lt;/div&gt;
