Join us for an outdoor leadership course which begins in the rainforests of the Olympic National Park and continues to the high mountain tops that make up the Olympic Mountain Range. A summit of these coastal mountains will only be the beginning of the trip. Our decent will take us to the glacier fed runoff for a packrafting adventure. This course will offer Core Competency Certification for Outdoor Living and Leadership.

The course focuses on Basic Life Support skills, minor trauma and selected environmental & medical topics, the focused spine assessment and ruling out process, and allergic & toxic reactions. As with all our courses, the majority of time is spent in hands-on skills practice and simulations; lecture is limited to basic anatomy and physiology.

Our WFA courses are accepted by the American Camping Association (ACA) for camp programs that are close to standard EMS assistance and by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) including Philmont Scout Ranch. While the course includes instruction in adult CPR techniques, due to time constraints CPR certification is not included. 
This course may be used to recertify current WAFA, WFR, and WEMT certifications from accepted wilderness medicine providers. To receive certification graduates must register and complete the on-line Review & Recertification exam; there is a $25 fee for the on-line exam.

We have direct reciprocity with Wilderness Medicine Outfitters (WMO), First Lead, Aerie Backcountry Medicine, Desert Mountain Medicine (DMM), Sierra Rescue, Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO), Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS (WMI), and Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA).

WMTC well known for excellence in course design and delivery. We have some of the best instructors in the world; not everyone is suited to work for us. Instructor Applicants must successfully complete our Instructor Training Course (ITC) and Apprentice Program to become an Lead Instructor. The ITC is intensive and will prepare you to teach wilderness medicine. ITC students are preassigned specific lecture topics, skill sessions, and PAS drills to present during the ITC. The course closes with the ITC students teaching a local Wilderness First Aid Workshop. Each WFA class day is followed by an evening feedback session. Enrollment is limited to six students and taught at the WMTC classroom.

Applicants Must demonstrate mastery of:

   • Wilderness medicine
   • Didactic and experiential teaching
   • Basic outdoor expedition skills

• Advanced outdoor skill in one of the following areas: climbing,

mountaineering, whitewater paddling, sailing, skiing, and/or sea

kayaking.

This Master Educator course is five days in length and designed for people who are actively teaching others backcountry skills or providing recreation information to the public. This valuable training is recognized throughout the world by the outdoor industry and land management agencies. The profile of graduates is highly varied from USFS and NPS backcountry rangers to scout leaders, from outdoor retail executives to school teachers, from college outing club members to outfitters and guides. Successful graduates of the Master Educator course have the ability to train others in Leave No Trace skills and ethics, and can offer Leave No Trace Trainer courses (two-day) and Awareness Workshops (one-day or shorter).

This course will include canoeing and/or backpacking a couple of miles each day on unclassified moving water or over moderate terrain and will allow plenty of time to cover course materials, which we will do both during the day and into the evenings. Canoeing will be on Blue River (subject to sufficient water levels) which flows through one of the most scenic, interesting and diverse areas of Indiana. The hiking features natural bluffs overlooking creeks and rivers, mixed with the karst landscape of caves and sinkholes, and the diversity and density of native wildlife and vegetation. The trail can sometimes be rugged and steep. Participants should be in good physical condition and be able to hike with a full pack for 3-5 miles per day. Overnight camps will be in both impacted campsites and backcountry pristine sites.

The course fee is $525 per individual. This fee includes instruction, curriculum, a significant quantity of teaching materials and resources, a one year membership to Leave No Trace, course equipment, park entrance fees, camping fees, group equipment, and meals.

A $200 deposit is required to hold a spot on the course. Full payment is due 30 days before the start of the course (September 20^th). We accept checks by mail or a purchase order from your company or organization. If a purchase order is used, full payment is required within 30 days of registration.
