Event Description


COURSE TIMES ARE LOCAL MOUNTAIN TIME, NOT EST!
 
This one day course will help prepare you for spending time in the mountains during the winter as well as climbing higher glaciated peaks.  Our guides will get you out on various snow terrain to teach you proper technique and movement.
 
Benefits
·         Learn how to travel as a roped team
·         Learn different ways of walking in crampons and when to use each technique
·         Learn proper use of your mountaineering axe
·         Learn how to self-arrest a fall
 
Prerequisites
·         Ability to spend a full day out in the mountains
·         Generally fit

Course Time: 8:00am – 4:00pm**
 
Meeting Location: 341 Moraine Avenue, Estes Park, CO  80517 (see attached map to CMS)
 
Equipment List: See attached Mountaineering Equipment List
 
Forms: Individuals must have a waiver filled out.  See CMS Waiver attachment.  Please bring this waiver with you and give it to the guide.
 
Course includes: All the technical gear needed for the outing (i.e. harness, helmet, boots, crampons, mountaineering axe, etc.)
 
Course doesn’t include: Food*, water, transportation, individual’s soft goods (i.e. pants, jacket, gloves, etc.)
 
*A bag lunch will be provided for those individuals staying at the YMCA of the Rockies
 
**Transportation to CMS and to/from the trailhead is not included.  Please meet in the main lobby of Longs Peak Lodge at 7:30am to get your bag lunch and carpool to CMS.
